FAQ:
What is the purpose of files left in /var/preserve? (SCI56091)
Answer
The UNIX system copies open files to /var/preserve when the
system is rebooted. The files will be
owned by the original owner of the file.
For example, if a GENTRAN Server process had the file $EDI_ROOT/dm.idx
open when the system was rebooted, UNIX would place a copy of this file in /var/preserve with a name generated by
the UNIX system. GENTRAN does not use
these files in any way.
NOTE: These files are generated by the UNIX operating system
when the computer is rebooted. They are
not used by GENTRAN in any way.
